Healing

Over the course of the next few weeks it is very important that you take proper care of your tattoo to avoid any infection and ensure its life and beauty.

IF I USED TATTOO DERM on your tattoo it is meant to stay for 3 days. You may get some build up in the air pockets that looks bloody or sweaty. That is ok, leave it alone. When you take the bandage off it is important to pull it with the hairline, peel the corner down diagonally. With clean hands and warm water remove any excess lymph and ink. Use an antibacterial soap to wash the tattoo gently. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel (Never rub at it) and apply a thin layer of Vitamin E.¬†¬†Moisturize your tattoo only with Vitamin E when it is dry or itchy. You’ll need to keep up this aftercare routine until your tattoo is fully healed.

*Tattoo derm is a clear adhesive bandage applied directly after your tattoo, it is a clear in colour and an alternative to saran wrap/glad wrap.

If the tattoo derm is falling off and it refuses to stay on peel it off and follow the next set of aftercare instructions.

IF I USED SARAN WRAP/GLAD WRAP approximately 6 hours after being tattooed you will need to remove the bandage, with clean hands and warm water remove any excess lymph and ink. Use an antibacterial soap to wash the tattoo gently. Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel (Never rub at it) and apply a thin layer of vitamin E. Next you’ll need to re-bandage the tattooed area with saran wrap/glad wrap (avoid using any bandage or gauze products as it will leach the ink out of the tattoo).

Over the course of the next 3 days you’ll need to re-peat this process once every 6 hours making sure your hands are clean and that you are using fresh saran each time.

After the first 3 days you can stop re-bandaging your tattoo and you’ll only need to wash it once a day (unless you are doing an activity where you’ll be working up a sweat such as working out at the gym. You’ll need to wash it afterwards). You can wash it in the shower, just make sure the tattoo is the last thing you wash using only antibacterial soap to clean away any harsh products or excess dirt. Moisturize your tattoo only with Vitamin E when it is dry or itchy. You’ll need to keep up this aftercare routine until your tattoo is fully healed.

Your tattoo will feel similar to a sunburn for a couple of days, and after about 4 days it will begin to peel and it will get itchy. DO NOT PICK or SCRATCH! These flakes will come off on their own, cleaning and moisturizing your tattoo will help speed up the process.

Some things you should avoid:

  • Do not soak your tattoo, no swimming, hot tubs, baths or submerging in water for 2 weeks. Showers are fine as long as the water ins’t beating on your tattoo directly.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or tanning for 2 weeks. After your tattoo is healed make sure to apply a high SPF sun block in order to maintain the bright colour and keep your tattoo looking new and fresh.
  • Avoid any antibiotic and petroleum based ointments such as Vaseline, Polysporin, or Bepanthen
  • Do not over moisturize, excessive moisture will not allow a scab to form. Which is important for sealing in the colour as well as sealing out the foreign matter and bacteria.
